The Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday that as far as the Sputnik V vaccine (Corona Vaccine Sputnik V) is concerned, India and Russia are in touch with it. Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary in the Health Ministry, said that initial information has also been shared between the two countries. Meanwhile, sources have informed that Russia has sought cooperation from New Delhi to make the Sputnik-V vaccine and conduct its Phase III trial in India.


On 11 August, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the coronavirus vaccine 'Sputnik V'. With this, Russia became the first country in the world to approve a vaccine for COVID-19. Russia then said that the vaccine would be removed by the end of August. According to some reports, Russia has also produced the first batch of this vaccine. However, experts have raised concerns about 'Sputnik V', stating that the protocols used in making it has not been followed and maybe unsafe.

Russia has sought cooperation from India to manufacture the COVID-19 vaccine 'Sputnik V' and to test it in India in Phase III. Government sources told news agency Bhasha that the issue was discussed in the last meeting of the national expert group associated with the COVID-19 vaccine on 22 August.
