Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who is facing the camp within her party, has taken a big initiative in bringing the opposition parties together. In this initiative, he has the full support of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The two leaders are trying to unite the entire opposition on a range of issues, including the Joint Entrance Test (JEE) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to engineering and medical courses.


JEE-NEET Exam and GST Compensation Issue Raised

The issue of examination and GST compensation came up in the meeting of CM of seven opposition states with Congress President Sonia Gandhi. All the CMs have urged the Central Government to extend the date of examination. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also attended the virtual meeting. Doubts were being raised about his presence.


Mamta Said- Let's Unite Supreme Court

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called on the Chief Ministers present at the virtual meeting to unite to postpone the examination of JEE and NEET. He said, "I request all the state governments that we go to the Supreme Court together to have the exam canceled until the situation improves so that the students can sit for the JEE and NEET examinations." He added, 'There is an exam in September. Why put the lives of students in danger? We wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, but the answer has not come yet.


The Chief Minister of Maharashtra cited a US report. He said, 'An American report said that 97,000 children became infected with corona when the school opened. What will we do if such a situation arises? '


Sonia Said- the Provision of NEP is a Matter of Concern

In the meeting, Sonia also expressed concern over the National Education Policy (NEP, 2020). He said, 'We should be really worried about the announcements related to the National Education Policy because it is a really big shock. Problems related to students and examinations are also showing a very careless attitude. He termed the inability of the central government to give GST compensation as a betrayal of the states. 


Sonia said, 'In the meeting of Parliament's Standing Committee on Finance on August 11, the Finance Secretary had said that the Central Government is not in a position to pay 14% GST compensation this year. Punjab CM said- PM must tell our condition

Maharashtra Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh expressed concern over the loss of revenue to the government due to the epidemic. Agreeing on Mamata Banerjee's proposal, he said that the Chief Ministers should unite and make PM Narendra Modi a reality. The Punjab CM said, 'The situation of Covid-19 is continuously deteriorating. 


We spent around 500 crores. We are caught in a situation where the financial condition of our states is in a shambles. The central government has not paid compensation for GST. I agree with Mamta ji that together we should meet the Prime Minister. ' He said that all the Chief Ministers present here should go to the Supreme Court together.


Chakravyuh being created before GST Council meeting

Actually, there is going to be a meeting of GST Council on Thursday, in which the Chief Ministers of the states will participate. The finance ministers of the states are members of the GST Council. Sonia and Mamta are of the view that in the meeting of the Chief Minister's Council of the opposition parties, they should decide the strategy of pressuring the central government for compensation. It is being said that the Chief Minister of parties other than NDA can demand 14 percent GST compensation from the Center. The opposition-ruled states have accused the central government of defaulting in a way by not agreeing to compensation.

However, Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday invited Mamta Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, and Hemant Soren to attend today's virtual meeting. Apart from these chief ministers, the chief ministers of four Congress-ruled states including Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh are also present in the meeting.


Attempting to give a message to G-23 leaders inside Congress

It is being said that from today's meeting, Sonia Gandhi wants to send a message to the leaders of Group-23 within her party who sent her a letter regarding party leadership. It should be noted that even after the seven-hour-long meeting on Monday, no new President of the Congress Party could be elected and the Congress Working Committee (CWC) again relied on Sonia Gandhi and handed over the command of the Congress for the next six months.
