New Delhi, India;
The
political style and strategy that Rahul Gandhi adopted after becoming the
Congress president continues the process of grouping among various factions of
the party. And, when he left the presidency after the party's second
consecutive defeat in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, it turned into a camp of
discord, which is deepening day by day.
Resentment among elderly leaders due to Rahul's 'narrow thinking'
The manner
in which Rahul Gandhi handled various Congress issues angered the old faces of
the party and he could never reconcile with Rahul by considering him as too
narrow on the ground of thinking. These elderly Congressmen believe that the small group that Rahul Gandhi believes in, does not understand the needs of the
party so does not give proper advice to Rahul.
Differences Regarding Personal Attack On Modi
After the
Lok Sabha election results in May 2019, the Congress Working Committee meeting
Rahul announced his resignation as chairman and another meeting was held in
June this year. Then some members had requested Rahul to assume the post of
Congress President again. On both occasions, Rahul told the party veterans that
he does not want to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he is afraid to do
so.
Strategy to target Modi failed
These
remarks of Rahul shocked many leaders and he said that the Congress Party's
strategy has not been reviewed despite the continuous defeat against Modi led
BJP since 2014. Those elderly leaders said in their defense that the strategy
of personally attacking Modi and taking up so-called scams like Rafael has failed
miserably. Senior leaders are of the opinion that instead of targeting Modi all
the time, there should be an attempt to surround the issue on the basis of the issue.
Rahul still not deterred
However,
the suggestion of senior Congressmen was not affected by Rahul Gandhi and he is
continuously targeting Prime Minister Modi on issues like Rafael and now Covid-19 epidemic, economic downturn, Chinese encroachment. Rahul's critics say
that none of these issues have worked for the Congress party, no evidence has been
found so far. Conversely, prominent leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia left the
Congress.
Gandhi Family Loyalists are in Darkness
For some
senior Congressmen loyal to the Gandhi family, a lot of confusion arose when
Rahul left the party's post last year. He says that Rahul left to meet him to
discuss any issue, saying that he is no longer the party president, while in
fact through tweets and statements, he is still setting the party's agenda. Not
only this, but Rahul's mark can also be seen in the organizational structures of
the party.

Party workers loyal to Rahul keep publicly demanding him (Rahul) be re-elected Congress president. Rahul does not stop them either. Senior Congress leaders say that the activities of Rahul Gandhi and his loyal leaders and activists have left party members deeply confused. There is no doubt that the veteran leaders of Congress are not thinking anything and they are not able to decide what to do, what not to do.
